Flooring Installation for Trendy, Art Deco Apartment Complex Exceeds Tight Turnaround Expectations
Background: Architect Christy Waring & Associates designed the Capital Place Apartments in Downtown Phoenix to attract a younger crowd. Think trendy, art deco and modern touches that Millennials would fawn for. To top off the look, local contractor Concretizen was tapped to install a sleek flooring system throughout 4,000 square feet of the complex including the main entrance, lobby, sales area, lounge and game room floor.
Contractor: Concretizen is a decorative concrete company specializing in concrete coloring, overlayments, vertical surfaces, counter top resurfacing, concrete tiles and a wide range of artistic services. Owner Dana Boyer is also well known for artistic talents including airbrushing, automotive painting, murals, faux painting, metal sculptures and design work.
The Challenge: Concretizen had just 10 days to complete the job while working around other trades struggling to meet demanding schedules as well. A hectic environment made the tight turnaround difficult.
The Solution: Concretizen utilized the following APF system to create the desired look while mitigating damage to the coating from other trade workers in the area.
- Cem-Rez™ HT is a unique, semi self-leveling overlay that is used to resurface interior concrete floors. Due to its extreme durability, Cem-Rez™ HT is particularly well suited for commercial applications such as restaurants and retail areas. It produces a finished surface that can be colored and stained to meet design requirements.
- APF Color Fuse is a proprietary blend of specialized water-soluble polymers and liquid dyes designed for staining both conventional and polymer-modified concrete. A novel and highly effective adhesion promoter has been incorporated into the formulation that gives Color Fuse exceptional adhesion to conventional concrete substrates, giving it a major advantage over competitive water-based stains.
- APF Acryseal is a clear, solvent-based acrylic designed for sealing conventional concrete, exposed aggregate, porous tile, concrete pavers and a variety of architectural concrete surfaces. Acryseal is based on a hard acrylic polymer that produces coatings that give good gloss, stain-resistance and cleanability. Adhesion to properly prepared cementitious surfaces is excellent, and the material is completely non-yellowing. Concretizen selected this product specifically so impact or abrasion from other workers could be repaired quickly and easily. Several coats of wax were applied and burnished over the Acryseal.
Due to the system selection and incredibly hard-working team at Concretizen, the installation team was able to complete the job in eight days – two days ahead of schedule.
