UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion Gets Flooring Facelift
Background:
ULCA’s Pauley Pavilion is home of the famed basketball, volleyball and gymnastics teams. Originally constructed in 1965, the stadium is fresh off a 2.5-year renovation. Some 120,000-square-feet of flooring received an upgrade, including the concourse, seating, restroom and concession areas. The architect, NBBJ, needed a flooring system that would hold up to foot traffic from tens of thousands of fans, yet was also easy to clean and maintain.
The Challenge:
At the start of the project, the existing concrete flooring tested positive for moisture throughout the stadium. University officials were concerned the moisture remediation solution would set the project back budget-wise, and might impact the warranty requiring a single flooring system vendor.
The Solution:
APF proposed its VaporSolve Ultra System – a concrete moisture remediation system formulated to remedy all levels of moisture intrusion – with a custom pigmented application of VaporSolve 100, a low viscosity hydrophobic resin system, and a topcoat of Polyurethane 100 VOC, which was also pigmented to match an existing color choice.
Unlike other concrete coating manufacturers, APF was able to develop a custom flooring system with a built-in moisture remediation component – a unique, cost-effective solution that kept the project on budget and on time. APF negated the need for additional labor and ensured the single source warranty requirement remained intact.
